My bike was taken around midnight, but I missed the notification on my phone. The next morning, I received an alert around 7am that my bike had been moved around South East London. On the Friday after, more notifications but this time pointing clearly to a car wash. I traveled there, asked if they'd seen a bike in the area, and made a big point of saying it had a tracker on it. When I arrived back to work, I got a phone call — a customer had found my bike. Very grateful for Cowboy's brilliant anti-theft system.

I left my bike outside for five minutes, and it was stolen. I immediately checked the app and called the police. I shared with them the live position of my bike and the police instantly sent two officers to the location. They checked a couple different houses, but with no success.
Overnight I received new Theft Alert notifications, and the police sent two officers again. They saw the thief - someone who was already well known to them - and arrested him on the spot.

I wasn't planning on using my bike that day. Without the Theft Alert notifications I don't think I would have realized until the next day that it had been stolen. I would strongly advise all users to activate them.

We get it, insurance comes with complex terms but our plan is quite simple. Here are some frequently asked questions so you can understand all there is to know.
Are you eligible for the insurance?
You can buy theft insurance within a year of activating your bike.
We cover your bike all year round for up to maximum 5 years.
An insurance policy intended for Cowboy bikes only.
The insurance is intended for people aged 18 and over who are officially resident in Belgium.
Your bike is intended for private or commercial use (e.g. as a courier, deliveries, etc.).
The insurance is available with our Circular bikes, it doesn't cover secondhand purchased bikes.
What are the criteria for determining acceptance?
For the underwriting of a bike insurance, the risk is accepted (or refused) on the basis of the following criteria or, if applicable, their combination:
The age of the policyholder. Only persons of 18 years or more are allowed to subscribe to an insurance contract.
The country where the principal residence of the policyholder is located. The use of this criterion is based on the statistical observation that the administration of contracts and claims is more costly abroad.
The type of bikes to be insured. The use of this criterion is based on the fact that the risk is different for some types of “bikes”, like speed-pedelecs, pocket-bikes or steps.
The value of the insured bike and accessories. Above a certain value, the needs are different and require a specific insurance product.
The age of the bike to insure as from the first purchase. Only the bikes of less than 1 year old are allowed for this insurance product. After 5 years the insurance contract is canceled.
What are the pricing criteria?
The rate applied to the subscription of the bike insurance takes into account the following criteria:
The type of the insured bike The use of this criterion results from the statistical observation that the risk of material damage or theft is more enhanced for certain types of bikes.
The insured value of the bike and accessories The use of this criterion is based on the fact that the amount of compensation in case of theft or material damage is related to the insured value of the bike.
The geographical area based on the address of the policyholder's address. The use of this criterion results from the statistical observation that the risk of material damage or theft is more enhanced in certain geographical areas.
The presence or not of a GPS-tracker on the bike. The use of this criterion results from the statistical observation that the risk of theft is more enhanced for bikes without GPS-tracker. The chance to find a bike back is also increased if the bike is equipped with a GPS-tracker.
The coverages included in the insurance contract. The premium is directly influenced by the types of warranties that the policyholder chooses.
What is theft insurance?
If your bike is stolen, we will either get you a brand new bike or reimburse you.
We will also reimburse you for damage if it is the result of an attempted theft.
No depreciation is applied to the compensation calculation during the first 36 months (3 years) of the bike. As from the 37th month, a depreciation is applied. The minimum amount of compensation is set at 50% of the insured value as shown in the table of benefit in the terms and conditions and policy schedule.
What is assistance insurance?
If your bike is immobilized on a roadway accessible to our breakdown and towing service, we organize:
Roadside assistance and towing
Return and guidance of the children
Flat tire assistance
Assistance in the event of loss of keys to the padlock or a locked padlock
Assistance to the insured during a transfer
How does it work?
You will receive an activation code by e-mail when you purchased the insurance. To activate your plan and ride with peace of mind, you must enter it in the Cowboy app once your bike is set up.
You will receive a compensation by bank transfer corresponding to the value of your bike.
How much is your excess?
You have no excess.
Under certain circumstances, you will not be covered by insurance. What are they? (non-exhaustive list)

Are there any other rules to follow?
